An excellent intermediate reader.
Aimed at lower intermediate level(I think) this little book is an engrossing and enjoyable read. It has boosted my vocabulary and improved my grammatical understanding, I highly recommend it.

Great way to learn - provided you already know some Russian
I wasn't to sure about how to interpret 'intermediate' in the book's description, but fortunately it turned out to be at about the right sort of level (for me, at least).
The stories make use of different verb tenses and employ a reasonable range of grammatical constructions. As well as more common, widely used words there was quite a bit of vocabulary that I hadn't come across before. It also has a few comprehension questions, in Russian, after each chapter to provide a bit of focus and to test yourself.
I started working on this book after completing 'First Reader in Russian' which I found fairly easy. This book was more difficult, but because of that it probably helped me to learn/practice more grammar and vocabulary. It's aimed at the learner who's had a bit of practice and is reasonably confident, but is still simpler to translate than 'real' stuff, such as newspaper and magazine articles (or Checkov and Tolstoy).
